Early Yuan Dynasty Blue and White Porcelain Jar with Fish and Lotus Carving

This rare Late Song - Early Yuan-Dynasty jar has a refreshing design. Its base begins with a shallow foot which gives rise to elegant arches with floral motif. On top of this, the body grows to show a magnificent water scene with an early attempt into incised design of a fish depicted with ferociously sharp teeth and an open mouth.

Behind it is possible to appreciate the undulating and exquisite sea currents, and around it is a variety of aquatic plants, including an exquisite lotus flower illustrated completely open with a gorgeous pistil deployed. The painting continues through a short neck to a rim of rounded edges. Measurements: Height: 26 cm Diameter: 38 cm.
